Epic article at TNR by Deirdre McCloskey this week on how the modern would-be economists of happiness confuse the latter topic (rich and deep) with mere pleasure (immediate and shallow). I think a lot of it could be summed up in
Mill's famous quip, "It is better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied," but it's worth reading nonetheless, not least for this:
Pleasure is a brain wave right now. Happiness is a good story of your life.
